Website Building Tutorials – Warning Signs

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

As you’re looking for website building tutorials that you can use, remember that not everyone who’s out there supplying information is doing so out of the goodness of their hearts. There are often underlying motives that are going to influence the content of the instruction and, thus, it’s value.

For example, there are many available guides to building a website that are written with a specific piece of site building software in mind. The information presented is only useful if you’re using that particular program. That’s great if you do plan on using the software in question, but it’s not very helpful if you have other plans. To make matters even worse, some of those tutorials are designed to encourage sales of what are really outdated and subpar website building tools.

Other website building tutorials are nothing more than an extended commercial for a product or service that the person providing the guide just so happens to offer for sale. There’s nothing wrong with marketing, but information consumers should realize that the creators of these guides do have a financial interest in the products mentioned and that the interest can influence the content of the guide.

Additionally, nothing that hit’s the Internet ever really seems to go away. Once its published, it has a tendency to stick around, even after it’s long outlived its usefulness. If you doubt that, you haven’t been looking at too many website building guides lately. There are ebooks and texts that are so outdated as to be of negative value that are still circulating online. Be careful not to follow outdated and outmoded instructions as you work to create your sites.

If you keep your eyes open for these warning signs, you can avoid a lot of the second-tier material out there and will be more likely to uncover the kind of website building tutorials that will really provide you with meaningful assistance and guidance.

Part 14 – Step by Step SEO – Your SEO Campaign! Getting Your Web Site Indexed!

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

I am going through the whole process of basic SEO (search engine optimization) in getting a web site to the top of search engine result pages which includes just what SEO really is and what it is about.

This is the fourteenth article in this series.

If you have your keywords and keyword phrases, domain name(s), and have your web site optimized for SEO…you are ready to begin the process of getting your web site up in the search engine ranking pages.

After all of the time invested with the setup phase of your SEO campaign, you might think working on SEO would be complex. It isn’t.

All you are going to do is write articles and submit them to high Page Rank article directories. Not so bad but it takes alot of work. Before I go into that though, there are a good number of sources on the internet that would tell you that you need to submit your web site to Google first.

I will show you where you go to do this but I am also going to tell you why you should “Not” do it.

Here is the location to submit your web site.

Go to www.google.com, go to the bottom of the page where it says “About Google” and then click on it. Next you would go the column showing “For site owners”. Go ahead and then click on the “Add URL to Googles’ Index”.

This puts your web address into a “waiting list” to be indexed at some point in time. If you do this, you would have to wait at least 30 days or so before they get to it. It could possibly take several months even.

There is a better and much faster way though to get indexed.

I will explain what you do and why it works.

Instead of manually going to Google and signing up your link, sign up into an article directory with a high Page Rank of at least a 5 or 6, write an article and submit it. That’s it!

Here is what happens. High Page ranked web sites are visited by the search engines frequently. Article directories typically have a very high stream of content being submitted to them. If the article directory has a high Page Rank value, you can bet that Google is constantly querying the site for fresh content to the point that you might think they reside there.

If that article directory approves your article and publishes it, Google will soon do a “fresh” crawl, grab the content of the article, and places the links in your article in a separate index. Google will then go to those links and “crawl” your web site. Just like that, they have indexed your web site and are aware of it. Instead of waiting several months, you will have your site indexed in days.

I am currently working with a diverse team of like minded individuals in a co-op type atmosphere to build our business opportunity. This growing team currently consists of people from Ireland, Australia, England, Canada, and the United States. This team of network marketers are combining our efforts to obtain high positions in search engines like Google for higher level type keyword phrases. Where as many people usually fail when trying to build a home based business to supplement their incomes, we work together to ensure everyone has success. Anyone who becomes affiliated with us becomes successful as that is how “we” as a group become successful! The goal here of course is for many people doing a little instead of several people doing alot to ensure that success. All traffic and customers are derived from SEO. We do not call anyone unless they request it. We have a number of web sites but I can only submit two here. To learn more go to..

Website Building Tutorials That Don’t Hold Up

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Not so long ago, building a website was a real chore.  You either needed to invest in clunky yet expensive software or you were required to learn the ins and outs of “from scratch” site building.  Fortunately, things have changed a great deal.  Today, it’s easy for just about anyone to use some readily available and inexpensive (even free) tools to design a site.  Unfortunately, many of those old website building tutorials are still in circulation, providing questionable and outdated information to readers.

If you’re looking for guidance on building your site, check the website building tutorials you have under consideration for their date of publication.  If they’re more than a few years old, you probably don’t want to bother with them.

The Internet changes quickly.  The techniques that were en vogue a few years ago are now ancient history.  The old school methods that many guides outline are no longer necessary or relevant.  Few things become more dated more quickly than guides and tutorials about building a great site.

After you’ve ascertained adequate recency, become an active reader.  That means not taking the contents of the guide at face value.  Again, things may have changed.   There’s also that ever-present risk of getting bad information from a lower quality guide.  You want to do your homework before adopting any strategy that might be mentioned in the tutorials.  Make sure the recommendations still hold water by doing online research.

The best website building tutorials will provide you with all the information you need to know, from A to Z, to get the ball rolling with your own site.  Check the tutorials you’re considering to see if they live up to that standard.  Many are laser-focused on certain aspects of design and fail to provide the big picture information you’ll want as you take your first website construction program.

It would be nice if every site building tutorial contained solid, timely information.  That’s simply not the case, however.  If you want to learn from a tutorial, you need to be able to discern the guides that haven’t held up to the ravages of time from those that will provide you with timely, pertinent and actionable information.
