See More on Your Stonehenge and Bath Tours

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Thousands of visitors every year take tours across London and many more actually venture outside of London to destinations such as Stonehenge and Bath. What people dont realise is that there are other destinations you can also see in your day and one of those options is Windsor Castle and companies such as Evan Evans provide Stonehenge and Bath Tours that also include Windsor Castle and these day tours leaving at 9:00AM and arrive back at around 7:00PM are incredibly popular for people wanting to get outside of London and see more of the UK in a short space of time at a good price.

Why would you want to include Windsor Castle in your Stonehenge and Bath Tours? Well along with Buckingham Palace in London and Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, it is one of the principal official residences of Queen Elizabeth II and she spends many weekends of the year at the castle, using it for both state and private entertaining. The Queens two residences, Sandringham House and Balmoral Castle, are the Royal Family’s private homes but Windsor Castle really is beautiful and just spending some time in the town of Windsor is an opportunity not to be missed.

Finally, Stonehenge and Bath Tours would be impossible by Rail as there is no station near Stonehenge – and the option of having a coach journey around is often preferred by visitors with registered Blue Badge Guides assisting them and providing you with the information you require to get the most of your tour.

Disney Vacation Club’s New Resort – The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

A couple of month’s ago I had a chance to stay at Disney Vacation Club’s new resort, the Villas at the Grand Californian. Located right near the entrance to Disneyland, this is a great place to stay if you are planning a visit to the Anaheim parks. You can actually enter California Adventure right from inside the hotel grounds and Downtown Disney is just on the opposite side of the lobby, so all of the Disney magic is close at hand.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is, in my opinion, Disneyland’s best resort hotel and it has been around for several years now. I used to see them building it when I was living in Los Angeles and visiting Disneyland on a regular basis. Now though, they have expanded the resort and the expansion is all Villas for the Disney Vacation Club.

What this means for DVC owners is reduced costs for staying at The Grand Californian. I’ve stayed there before on points in one of the hotel rooms, but now that the DVC Villas are open, it cost fewer points per night to stay in a studio, which gives you a bit more room than the standard hotel rooms. The lay-out for the villas, as far as I can tell, is virtually the same as the rooms at my other favorite Disney resort, Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas. The difference is in the soft furnishings. They features lots of Arts & Crafts motifs and the idea is that you should feel like you are staying in a great lodge in Northern California.

There’s been a lot of talk on the various Disney forums that if you want to stay at the Grand Californian Villas then you better own there and buy soon as there are only 48 villas total. But I own at Saratoga Springs at Disney World and still had no problem booking a stay in the Villas at the Grand Californian for a few nights in November, only a few weeks after they were officially opened for reservations. I suppose that may change in the future, but I think if you really want to visit and are flexible with your dates and unit sizes, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

Now there is one change at the Grand Californian that I don’t care for too much. As a result of needing the extra room to build on the property, self-parking for the resort is no longer directly in front of the resort. You have to cross Disneyland Drive now to get to and from the parking lot. It’s nearby, but still a hassle. Valet parking, however, will set you back $17 a day plus tips, so if like to spend your money on better things that parking the car, then self-parking will just have to do!

Of course, once you own at the Grand Californian, that opens up possibilities to stay at Disney’s other resorts as well. So if you’ve been thinking about becoming a member, you can find out how DVC works on my Disney Vacation Club page.

Planning a trip to Disneyland? If you find that the Grand Californian is just a little too expensive for you, there are plenty of other options. Check out some of the other hotels near Disneyland.

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Sharm El Sheikh is a luxury holiday destination on the tip of the Sinai Peninsula. For a destination in the Middle East you would expect lovely pristine beaches and you get an awesome choice of those, but Sharm El Sheikh really comes into its own as a diving resort.

Consistently rated as one of the best diving resorts in the world, Sharm offers an experience that will awe and charm the diving enthusiast from novice to very experienced. You would be mistaken though if you thought diving was all there was to offer. Sharm El Sheikh is at its heart a holiday destination for all the family.

Attractions for the rest of the family include Kite Surfing at the Kite Junkies centre. This exhilarating sport has been voted the most popular attraction at the resort year on year and even if you don’t do anything else, this is a must.

There is also Karting, Quad Biking and Scooter rides which have also proved extremely popular with visitors of all ages. Any trip to Egypt would not be complete without taking in some of the country’s history and a day trip to the Sinai Mountain is just the thing to add that historical twist to your trip.

If you do fancy a spot of diving, snorkelling or any other water sports you’ll be spoilt for choice. Sharm El Sheikh is home to many world class dive centres such as the Aqua Nabq Dive Centre, Colona Watersports, Aquarius Dive School, Sinai Dive Club and a host of other superb centres.

After a day by the beach, scuba diving in the aqua-blue seas, golfing, kiting or karting, Sharm offers the chance to unwind after sunset with a mixture of Egyptian traditional and modern nightlife culture.

The modern world class hotels that dot Sharm El Sheikh all offer a feast of entertainment from cabaret shows, casinos to night clubs. Familiar chains like Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe and Pascha rub shoulders with local bars and clubs such as the ever popular Star Music Bar at the Hyatt Regency and Bus Stop Night Club at the Sanafir Hotel.

You will likely get a better rate of exchange if you wait until you get to Egypt before changing your currency.

Culture: Sharm El Sheikh has a very western outlook, however beware that topless sunbathing is illegal in Egypt. Dress code in the resorts in generally liberal but if going on day trips away from the resort a more conservative dress code would be advisable. Alcohol is available but the minimum age is 21.
