Annoying Web Design Can Turn Visitors Away

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

When you create your web design, one of the things you need to take note of is whether the appearance of your site annoys visitors or not. Have you ever come across a site that you wanted to get out of right away because of its annoying layout? Some sites are like that. Even though you haven’t seen the content, you want to get out as soon as possible because the design annoys you. It’s like there’s a negative vibe.

If your web design has this negative vibe, then no one would want to go to your site, not even if you offer great content. You will not be able to generate good traffic.

Consider how your visitors would feel about your site. Put yourself in the shoes of your visitors. Think about what would annoy you and what would not. This way, you will be able to improve your site and generate good traffic.

No matter how hard you work on marketing your site, if your web design does not make visitors feel good, you will not get traffic. It will be hard to get your site indexed since no one is visiting you.

It doesn’t take much to annoy visitors with your site, actually. If you are careless with what you put in your home page, the layout you use, and the multimedia tools, you can easily spark the irritation of some visitors. Here are some of the things that can make your web design annoying:

Using huge font size – this can make your readers really annoyed. Big fonts are unnecessary especially if your readers can read. Using these is like shouting at them when they can hear you loud and clear. No one likes to be shouted at.

Having background music on each page of your site – this can annoy your visitors to high levels. There is no reason to put background music on each page. This will discourage your readers from reading further. They will want to stop hearing the music so they’ll just get out of your site.

Using pop up windows incessantly – getting boxes of advertisements and other stuff pop out of your screens can be very, very annoying. Especially if you are looking for a very important information on the site. If your web design utilizes pop ups, you can be making your visitors see red. You may be preventing them from getting the information they want.

Web Design Mistakes to Avoid

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

When getting your website designed there are a few things that you need to take in consideration in order to avoid getting changes again and again later on, wasting both your time and money. Web design requires planning; it is good to know beforehand what you want in your website before moving to the next step. Below are a few web design mistakes that you must avoid.

Too Much Animation

It is okay to have some animation on your website, this include animated gif images, scrolling text marquees or flash animations. These are good to keep your website alive, but try not to have too much as it can be a turnoff to your visitors. Some flash animations can take some time to load, no one would wait too long when searching for information online. If you have your whole website in flash you may have already guessed why it is not converting as you expected.

Use of Frames

Frames can be good to organize a page but there are definitely worse than good associated with the use of frames. It is more complicated for a user to bookmark the page and return to it later on. A user might find him a bit lost if he is not technical. Thinking that the website is not working well, he will surely not come back.

Orphan Pages

Many websites have those pages that are not any other page. Some of those orphan pages do not link to other pages and neither to the homepage. They serve no real purpose. Keeping these pages live can be bad as they may still be listed in search engines and bringing traffic, the best to do is redirect them to the homepage of your website or any other page that can be more appropriate.

Blank Pages

If you are getting a dynamic website, you will probably have the option to update your pages and content via a custom CMS (Content Management System) provided by your web design firm. Some CMS will have all your pages created with your navigation tree so you can update them later on. This is not a good thing as those pages have nothing on and serve no purpose unless you add content. Best is to be able to add new pages only when you need them. Talk to your web design firm on what type of CMS you want.

Before getting a website it is good to know what to do and what not. A web presence is a plus for all businesses. Avoiding the mistakes above can make your website a worthwhile experience. Visit http://www.WeblineUK.com for professional web design services.

How a Professional Web Design Helps to Build Trust

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

The key to a successful online business is building customer trust. Establishing trust in the virtual world can be a difficult task because there are so many websites competing for visitors. One important method of building trust is to create a professional web design.

A business website allows you to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so that you are able to interact with millions of potential customers from around the world. A professional website design tells a visitor that a business is secure, credible, and provides quality goods and services. A key component of internet marketing is to create a trust building website. A professional website design should be business appropriate, well thought-out and implemented, and focused on the visitor.

To build visitor trust, a web design should utilize the following tools:

Content: A professional website should contain educational and informative articles that are relevant to the businesses vision. The articles should also be professionally written that do not contain errors.

Search Engine Rankings: Your website design should be search engine friendly so that it will achieve a high ranking. Make sure you have the appropriate key words, minimal pictures, links, appropriate domain name, a Blog, chat room, the business address, logo, and a contact email and address.

Privacy: Include a privacy policy that is clearly located on the website. Never disclose email addresses to 3rd party companies.

Email marketing: Provide your targeted audience with an “opt out” tool for your email marketing campaigns.

Encourage Visitor Interaction: Provide tools to allow your visitors to interact with the site. This can include webinars, discussion forums, surveys, comment section, polls, and contests.

Showcase Your Company: Include your company’s history, mission, vision, and other important background information. Make sure you have a list of client testimonials. Display pictures of your business that includes both the interior and exterior. You can even include pictures of your employees working such as in a meeting or at their desk.

Create a Blog: Add a Blog to your site which will allow you to keep your visitors up-to-date about new products, services, upcoming events, special announcements, and positive news about the company.

Hire a Professional Design Company: Website design companies know the “ins” and “outs” of creating a professional website. They will help determine your needs and your visitors’ needs, and then design a website that is professional and user-friendly.

Show that User Personal and Financial Information is Safe: Make sure that your visitors know that their payment transactions are safe. Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) uses digital certificates and encryption to perform a series of security checks verifying that the identity of a customer or sender of information is valid. Consider acquiring a trustmark.

Today, having a website is a must for every business. In recent years, web designs have undergone many changes. They have now become more interactive and a place to share information. No matter the size of a business, if you design a website that focuses on building trust, you will drastically increase the number of visitors that will become loyal customers.
