The 5 Evils That Can Kill Your Success in Internet Marketing
Saturday, October 29th, 2011Your journey to Internet marketing success is fraught with dangers. There are five evils you will confront along the way. They will stop you from reaching your destination. The overcomer in you must slay these evils.
#Evil 1: Procrastination. The first evil is procrastination. This is putting things off until tomorrow instead of doing it now, for various reasons: We are lazy; we are tired; we are overwhelmed; we are stressed; the task is boring; it takes too much time; it is hard to do; etc. Procrastination is actually a result of poor time management.
It is only when the pain of NOT doing that thing outweighs the pain of doing it that we take action. But as Internet marketers we all have only 24 hours, and what we do with this time has a direct impact on our bank account.
So if you’re struggling with a task that’s too big and keep procrastinating because you feel overwhelmed only when thinking about it – what you can do is to break the task into small baby steps. Map out the day’s output in a to-do list. Think in terms of systems. Finish the list first before you do other things. And stick to this. There’s no magic bullet.
Another killer tip is to “eat your frog first.” The ugliest, hardest, most disconcerting task you have on your list should be done first thing in the morning, right after finishing your morning rituals. Most people get more things done in the first hour of the morning than during the rest of the day. That is because you’re full of energy, more focused and clear-minded.
#Evil 2: Lack of Strategic Planning. Just hoping for maximum returns with minimum effort won’t work. Have a plan and stick to it. Think in terms of purpose – where you want to get and how to get there. And give this process your undivided attention.
Have a business plan. Learn the trade. Take Internet marketing courses. Read ebooks and reports – specifically to answer your questions. Whatever you do, you know you are doing it with a clear purpose, focus, and the end goal in mind.
#Evil 3: Lack of Clarity. Most newbies that come to the online marketing arena start by not knowing where they are and where they are going. They are overloaded with information on how to make money. They jump from one idea to another. They do many things at once and the result is they cannot do anything right. There is a lack of clarity in what they should do.
Be clear what your goals are and the end result you want to achieve. Work out the process backwards. What does it take to reach your dream? Focus on one strategy. Stick to one business model. Make no mistake: an Internet marketing business takes hard work and dedication. Don’t give up too soon and you will see results and reap the rewards in the end.
#Evil 4: Lack of a Business Mindset. This is probably the most subtle, yet extremely important. Many newbies have the idea that Internet marketing is the quick and easy way to get rich. They want a proven formula for making money handed to them on a silver platter. And boy, the internet marketing niche is filled with such offers promising overnight riches. So they think that they can quickly put up a website and the money will come pouring in automatically. Only the scammers promise you a fast track to getting rich. The truth is that you have to work hard for it, and – surprise – treat your business like a real business. Because that’s what it is!
Internet marketing is a real business. Like any other venture, one must set aside a few hours a day for work, setting goals, completing them on time, working with a budget, and staying focused on tweaking the system that drives your business and brings you money.
#Evil 5: Lack of Focus. It is very easy to get sucked into buying courses that promise to make you an unrealistic amount of money in the shortest time. It takes motivation to stay focused on doing one business model, one strategy, one niche. Master one thing well before you hop on to the next.
If you try to do too many things at once, you will never spend enough time promoting them, and then you’ll get frustrated with the result. So focus on one or two businesses and put all your time into them. When sales are not coming your way, persevere and keep yourself motivated.
Overcome the five evils and you will be on your way to Internet marketing success. Suffering from procrastination, lack of motivation, lack of focus and entrepreneurial ADHD?
