<p>The likeliest reason is   that polyolefin isn&#8217;t particularly dangerous in any way. It&#8217;s often   used in products as diverse as shrink film, rash guards, shoes and arm   rests. It is particularly useful in these capacities because of strong   chemical resistance, low surface energy and high chemical inertia, but   does lose its effectiveness with drops in temperature, which is a   phenomenon you might be familiar with if you&#8217;ve had to use it to wrap   packages traveling long distances in highly disparate temperatures. On   the plus side, however, it has not been linked to any major diseases in   adults or children, which is something we should all strive for in our   packaging materials.</p>
<p>Polyolefin can be dangerous if you swallow   large amounts of it, however. If you are consistently in the habit of   eating your turkey sandwiches without taking off the shrink wrap, you   could be putting yourself at a choking hazard. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ringworm, also known as tinea or dermatophytosis, is a skin fungal   infection caused by the dermatophyte group. Dermatophyte is a collective   name for the three genera that cause fungal infection to humans and   animals, which are Epidermophyton, Microsporum, and Trichophyton. These   are ringworm causes that may manifest ringworm symptoms when they infect   a human or animal host. Ringworm causes take about 10 to 12 days before   they start to display ringworm symptoms.</p>
<p>Ringworm cause can be   transmitted through:</p>
<p>(1) Direct skin to skin contact. Direct skin   to skin contact to a ringworm infected person or animal.</p>
<p>(2)   Indirect contact. Indirect contact can be possible by using contaminated   articles or exposure to contaminated surfaces or environment.</p>
<p>(3)   Contact with contaminated soil. It requires frequent exposure before   you can actually contract the ringworm cause from the contaminated soil.</p>
<p>Fungal   spores can be transmitted through those ways. But it also depends on   the person&#8217;s immunity that places one at risk for dermatophyte   infection. High risk people include:</p>
<p>(1) Those who have skin   breaks such as wounds or skin diseases that creates an opening to the   outer layer of the skin;</p>
<p>(2) Those who are too young and too old   individuals because a weak or underdeveloped immune system makes a   person prone to develop ringworm infection; and,</p>
<p>(3) Those who are   under stress, malnourish, or has severe types of diseases or illnesses   that made them immunocompromised can also be a risk for developing skin   fungal infection.</p>
<p>After exposure to the ringworm cause, ringworm   symptoms develop in two weeks time or less. It can affect several areas   of your body. Here are the ringworm types that you should be familiar   with:</p>
<p>(1) Tinea Capitis. It is a type of ringworm that affects the   scalp. It can cause bald spots because it causes the hair to fall off   easily.</p>
<p>(2) Tinea Faciei. It is ringworm that affects the face,   except on the bearded areas. It is common in children because they are   always in contact with pets at home.</p>
<p>(3) Tinea Barbae. It is   ringworm that affects the bearded areas. It is also known as barber&#8217;s   itch.</p>
<p>(4) Tinea Corporis. It is a type of ringworm that affects   the skin of the body.</p>
<p>(5) Tinea Manus. It is ringworm that   involves the palmar surfaces and spaces between the fingers. It usually   affects one hand, and is usually accompanied by tinea pedis.</p>
<p>(6)   Tinea Cruris. It is ringworm that involves the groin area, and is also   known as jock itch.</p>
<p>(7) Tinea Pedis. It is a type of ringworm that   affects the feet, and it is commonly known as athlete&#8217;s foot.</p>
<p>(8)   Tinea Unguium. This is ringworm that affects the nails, and it is also   termed as onchomycosis.</p>
<p>Ringworm causes are diagnosed by your   physician or dermatologist. Your doctor may use one or more tests to   determine that it is really caused by a dermatophyte fungus. Here are   the tests that physicians usually use for ringworm diagnosis:</p>
<p>(1)   Examination of appearance and location of ringworm symptoms</p>
<p>(2)   Fungal culture</p>
<p>(3) Wood&#8217;s lamp or Ultraviolet light</p>
<p>(4)   Microscopic examination</p>
<p>(5) Skin biopsy</p>
<p>Ringworm causes can   be eradicated using antifungal treatments. Antifungal treatments   include:</p>
<p>(1) Topical treatment- Miconazole, clotrimazole,   ketoconazole, and terbinafine.</p>
<p>(2) Systemic treatment-   Griseofulvin, itraconazole, terbinafine, and fluconazole.</p>

Half of these falls   may result in injury to the senior citizen, and about 18 percent   require medical care. Health and wellness may dictate more care to   prevent falls.</p>
<p>Diminished and poor balance puts older people at   risk for falls which may cause injury. Exercise can help a person with   balance which will help to prevent a fall, and it is never too late to   exercise. Walking may seem difficult but is beneficial to build strength   and improve balance. Social activity and keeping the body active are   important. A one point decrease in social activity is said to be   equivalent to being five years older than your actual age.</p>
<p>Training   may help to avoid falls. The brain may develop fall prevention   strategies to help a person maintain balance to avoid a fall. When   starting to slip, the brain may help the person to avoid a fall by   having some control over the landing foot which is on the ground during   the slip.</p>
<p>Reasons that older people have poor balance which may   cause them to fall: <br />
    &bull;	Unsteady on feet <br />
    &bull;	Leg and food problems <br />
    &bull;	May have poor peripheral vision (central and side vision are   reduced with age) <br />
    &bull;	Inner ear problems <br />
    &bull;	A neurological problem may be present <br />
    &bull;	Lack of concentration</p>
<p>There are some things to do which may   help a person keep from falling: <br />
    &bull;	Go to a doctor for help and advice <br />
    &bull;	Look down regularly while you are walking to check for uneven   surfaces <br />
    &bull;	Try to improve balance by practicing to rise from a chair and   stand on one foot <br />
    &bull;	Pick up your feet so that you don&#8217;t catch your shoe on something   sticking up <br />
    &bull;	Take someone&#8217;s arm and let them help support you <br />
    &bull;	Use a cane or walker when it becomes necessary</p>
<p>If a person   is not injured physically during a fall, the worst part of falling is   the embarrassment suffered. People generally rush to help a person who   falls. When a fall occurs around people unknown to the person, it is not   so bad when they think that they will never see them again. Falling   around family and friends can cause more embarrassment. Falling happens   as almost a regular occurrence for some people as they age. It does not   necessarily have to be that way. Precautions should be taken to avoid   serious injury. People can be more careful and aware to prevent problems   with falling.</p>

Neither will you get the same benefits&#8230;exercise   speeds up your metabolism, which of course is important when you&#8217;re   trying to shed excess pounds. Your metabolism determines how quickly you   can burn fat. One of the other benefits is that it can help your body   with the detox process. As I said in and earlier article, excess fat   contains toxins both physical and emotional. To rid the body of these   toxins on a physical level, takes healthy food, exercise and lots of   water. On an emotional level you may have to deal with many issues, in   order to get rid of the toxic emotions stored in those fat cells. I&#8217;ll   do a future article on that subject.</p>
<p>For now, here are a few very   good reasons why you should include exercise in your weight loss program   and for overall good health:</p>
<p>* exercise in the form of weight or   resistance training speeds up your metabolism</p>
<p>* weight training   will also tone and shape your body</p>
<p>* aerobic exercise will help   you burn calories so weight loss is quicker and more efficient</p>
<p>*   weight training also builds muscle helping your body look firm as   opposed to flabby</p>
<p>* exercise helps build strong bones, and will   make you physically stronger</p>
<p>* it will help your cardiovascular   system, it can lower high cholesterol, increase your energy level and   increase circulation in the body</p>
<p>We all know how beneficial   exercise is, yet we continue to avoid it whenever we can. The most   effective weight loss program will always include exercise, not only for   it&#8217;s overall benefits to your health, but also for what it contributes   to weight loss. Find a program that works for you. Choose a form of   exercise that appeals to you. If you do nothing more than walk every   day, you will gain enormous benefits and certainly easier, quicker   weight loss.</p>
<p>If walking is your thing get a pedometer to measure   your steps. Shoot for 10,000 steps a day. If that sounds like a lot,   it&#8217;s not. You&#8217;d be surprised how quickly you&#8217;ll get there if you do a   few things like take the stairs when you can, walk a couple of blocks on   your lunch hour, Us a stair stepper at home, if you&#8217;re not into the   gym. Spend ten minutes or so, in the morning running in place. Walk the   dog an extra block or two. You get the idea. <em>The more time you   invest in exercise, the quicker, the easier the weight loss</em>. And   remember this needs to be a lifestyle change. You wouldn&#8217;t want to put   all this effort into losing weight, then revert to your old habits,   which will inevitably land you back in the same overweight condition as   before. So get some exercise and keep &#8216;thinking thin&#8217;.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Just about every time I go out to eat, I see why we are having so   many problems with obesity. Family restaurants serve platters for one   person that could feed a family of four. Fast food places ask me if I   want to &#8220;supersize it.&#8221; The fat, cholesterol, sodium and sugar content   of the foods offered tend to be more than what my doctor wants me to eat   for the whole day&#8230;and sometimes it goes into the next day&#8217;s RDA. We   have a problem here.</p>
<p>Part of the problem is the changes in our   society. Dining out used to be a rare occasion. Some families might go   once a week, but most went out only for very special occasions such as   birthdays and anniversaries. It didn&#8217;t matter as much what the chef   used. It was lavishly prepared and generous portions were provided.</p>
<p>Now,   many people only eat such foods. If they don&#8217;t go out to eat, they buy   already prepared food from the market to eat at home. Some families do   this for every meal. This can create many problems.</p>
<p>The second   part of the problem is knowing what a proper portion size is. The   restaurant platters above contain more than one portion most of the   time. As an example, a portion of protein such as a steak should be   about the size of a deck of cards. The huge, twelve ounce steak is   obviously larger than that. The french fries on the side should equal   about half a cup. Usually, there are two or three cups full per plate.</p>
<p><strong>What   you can do about it</strong>:</p>
<p>There are things you can do, and   you don&#8217;t necessarily have to give up going out to do them. If you don&#8217;t   want to cook, take a good look at your plate when it arrives. If you&#8217;ve   got good willpower, divide the food in half. If you think you might   continue to eat if it stays on your plate, ask for a to-go box and place   the second half in it. Out of sight, out of mind usually.</p>
<p>Read   the nutrition information, if provided. If not, look it up on-line. Many   restaurants post it on their web sites, and several states require the   information to be on the table at restaurants. Once you get over the   shock at what&#8217;s in it, choose what works best for you and your diet. Do   the same thing when purchasing prepared foods at the supermarket.</p>
<p>Petition   for more healthy choices on the menu. Restaurant owners were upset by   the requirement to put this information out where everyone could read   it, and many resisted adding healthier options. However, when they began   to do that here in California, the owners were in for a shock. People   began ordering healthier foods. This has encouraged some eateries to   branch out and extend these listing of them on the menu.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t   forget to do the same thing with your beverages. Some studies suggest   that diet drinks cause people to eat more. Some think it&#8217;s a chemical   reaction in the body, but I suspect it&#8217;s more a reaction in the mind.   &#8220;If my beverage has one or fewer calories, then I can eat more&#8230;&#8221;   Water, unsweetened tea, herbal tea and black coffee (no sweetener, no   milk or creamer) can be good choices under the right conditions. Colas,   fruit drinks, and our favorite lattes contain a lot of calories and they   aren&#8217;t usually added to the daily total.</p>
<p>Portion control can help   us overcome a lot of our problems with weight. All it takes is a bit of   willpower and the help of the people who serve us our food. However,   don&#8217;t place the blame squarely on them, we should take it on ourselves,   as we are the ones that choose what we eat.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I wrote a couple years ago about how drinking sugar water can lead   to weight gain, because your body does not feel as full when you consume   the calories in a liquid form.</p>
<p>The American Institute for Cancer   Research has done some research into why we do not feel as full when we   drink an equivalent number of calories compared to when we eat those   calories.</p>
<p>From the Kansas Cit infoZine News:</p>
<blockquote><p>Scientists   offer several explanations as to why we may not notice calories from   some beverages. A drink&#8217;s rapid passage through the mouth provides less   time for signals to trigger the brain you are eating. Compared to   beverages, solid food seems to provide more of a feeling of fullness,   which signals the brain to stop eating. Thick liquids (like smoothies   and shakes) provide considerably more fullness signals than thin   liquids, such as soft drinks, fruit drinks, and sweetened tea and   coffee. As portion sizes of calorie-dense beverages increase, it is   easier to gulp down larger amounts than to eat larger portions of solid   foods. Finally, some researchers suggest that there may be a   psychological component, too. Many of us consider beverages a separate   category that does not &#8220;count&#8221; in the same way as solid food.</p></blockquote>
<p>  This   all makes sense to me. If you are concerned with weight loss, then you   should be replacing almost all of your soda intake with water, and the   majority of your fruit drinks with water as well. If you are not going   to feel any more satiated after drinking beverages with more calories,   then you need to consider what you are consuming and what your goals   are.</p>
<p>Even when you are not trying to lose weight, it makes   sense to try to drink more water than other types of beverages. I rely   on my body to tell me how hungry that I am and how much I should be   consuming, and now I have yet one more reason to stick to water   throughout my day. Drinking a gallon or more of water every day is   probably one of the reasons that I have managed to maintain such a   steady weight over the past decade. Specifically, my weight only tends   to vary within a 5 pound span for almost the entire year.</p>
<p>Attaining   and maintaining a healthy weight should be something that anybody who   hopes to compete in any sport should strive to maintain, and being able   to rely upon your body to tell you when it has had enough to eat   certainly makes that easier. <p>The   sad truth is that you did not put the weight on over night and you will   not lose it over night.</p>
<p>It is best to use simple common sense.   Start a modest exercise program, say an hour a day. If you do not want   to go outside for exercise then an exercise bike or a tread mill could   be your answer. I usually have an exercise bike parked in front of the   Television.</p>
<p>I use a diet plan that will help you choose five   sensible meals 14 days in advance. This keeps you from becoming hungry   during the day it also kicks the metabolism into high gear.</p>
<p>It   takes fuel of food to burn fat so keeping a decent calorie count in the   body is very important.</p>
<p>you will want to stay away from high   calorie foods such as cookies, brownies, chips well you get the idea.</p>
<p>The   program works because it is a lot like big brother looking over your   shoulder. Those rare occasions when I stray from the program I feel bad   enough, now I have to admit it to someone else.</p>
<p>If I do not lose   the proper amount of weight for the week they know I strayed.</p>
<p>The   program is the <em>best weight loss plan</em> I have tried. If you are   looking to lose weight because you want to look good for this weekend,   then this is probable not for you.</p>
