How to Uncover Holes in Your Internet Marketing Competition

I wanted to make one very important point that you may discover as you are doing research on your online business competitors. That is, after you have found your competition, often times it is very smart not to compete head to head with them. Instead when you are creating your business, create it in a way that will complement theirs. Then you will have the ability to leverage their strengths to build your business.

After doing this research you may see that it may be smarter for you to create a strategic partnership with your competitor and leverage what they do well to build your business.

Many Internet marketers go to clickbank.com and spend time finding people who have products that are selling well, but the product owner has no backend offer. They then approach the seller with a backend offer. They integrate it, and split the profits.

There is a huge hole in these merchants’ marketing, but because he sees it and can fill it, they are able to partner up and together make more profits.

I know other people who find great products, but the sales letters are horrible, so they write their own sales letters to sell that person’s products.

The key here is that you are finding holes in your competition. Once you have found them, you can either compete with them by filling these holes, or use them to create strategic partnerships.

There is a powerful concept taught by Jay Abraham. He said that you need to look at all of the products and services that someone needs immediately before they become your client, and all of the products and services that they need directly after they have been your client.

For example, if you are a hosting provider, before someone needs hosting, what else do they need? They need a domain name and they may need a business name.

So you should be going to companies who register domain names, and see where their holes are. See if they are offering hosting, and if not, find out how you can fill that gap.

This one is key. What is the unique angle that you are going to bring to your niche marketplace? If you truly want to build your business into as big of an enterprise as possible, you need to have some type of unique selling proposition. What makes you, or your products, or your company unique. Why would someone buy from you as opposed to your competition or not buying at all? If you cannot answer this question, then you are not ready to get into this market yet. If you can answer it, then you are mostly there.

The BIGGEST key to all of business, once you know you have the right market is:

  • What is the best way that I can serve my potential customer to change their lives?

If you are focused on how you can make a positive difference in your target market niche, not on making money for new business, then you will start making real money. For some reason, the more we focus on serving others, the more money we make. Make that your focus, and I promise the money will come.

You need to be passionate about the target niche which you have chosen for your business. Not only should you desire to make money in this business but you should know it inside and outside of the market, how people can make money in that market, what the problems are people within that market share, and how you can apply your solutions, products and services to serve those problems.

Once you are able to do this, you will be extremely valuable to your target niche audience and they will continue to patronize your store or website. This is one of the largest areas on the Internet today which marketers do not pay enough attention to. If you choose to do this, you’ll quickly become one of the elite marketers on the Internet today.

With Internet marketing today, there are far too many people thinking they are going to strike it rich with only selling $20 ebooks. How many of these will they have to sell to develop a million dollar business? Too many!

One of the top techniques in determining whether a niche will be a profitable one or not is to find a market that has the potential for a mass roll out. This is one of the most important aspects in online business.

Most online businesses are like a Lamborghini on a dead end street. You can go fast and make a ton of money quickly, but it also ends quickly. You need to pick a market that not only has online potential for making money quickly, but offline potential where you can roll it out to other media.

To know if your market has mass roll out potential you want to look for magazines, radio shows, TV shows and direct mail lists that you can roll your offer out to after your initial online launch.

What Story Are The Niche’s Keywords Telling You?

Too many people today build their online businesses around keywords they believe they can market in, but have absolutely no ambition to market to that niche.

This leads me to the next important area to look at when deciding on a niche – build a business around something you are passionate about.

I know plenty of people making millions of dollars in niches that have no keyword volume to speak of, but because the other elements above fit, they are able to build great companies. With that said, I do not discount the fact that knowing the story your keywords are telling will help you to know the type of volume you can do online.

The biggest factor that I am looking for in the keywords is the volume happening in the long tail. For your business, you should not care too much about the volume happening with Ć¢EURo related keywords that are not specific to your niche, but the volume happening with keyword phrases like, “best of your specific niche programs” because they are easier to target, there are more of them, and the volume happening from these phrases are more than ten times what’s happening with the top competitive keyword.

You also want to focus on finding a long tail this will give you much more to work with for your SEO and PPC campaigns.
