Site Promotion – Revealing a Simple Approach to Promoting Your Website

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Every one of us has to go through the same process when building a website. After it is built you need to do site promotion. How you go about it is entirely up to the individual because there are so many different avenues you can follow.

For one if you are looking for instant results you will need to purchase your spot on the search engines. Or you could also purchase some offline classified ads in your local newspaper. If you are looking to spend even more on your advertising you could go as far as purchasing radio or TV ads.

The list and avenues is as endless as your imagination. The trick is to test your ads before spending too much so you can gauge the outcome. After all you don’t want to be spending more than you’re making. With a proper set up as campaign you could very easily do a site promotion that will give you almost instant sales and profit.

If you are looking for a more long term solution that you don’t need to keep feeding I would suggest you go for more free methods of site promotion. These range from writing article to making video or even social networking if you are a social kind of person.

Article marketing is my favourite and is one of the easiest to do. Because of its simplistic nature almost anyone can do it. It consists of writing informative articles on subjects that your target market would be interested in with a link to your website in the bio.

You then place these short articles that consist of 300 to 500 or more words into article directories that you can find all over the internet by doing a simple search on Google. Not only does this promote your website it also builds your credibility in the eyes of your potential customers. Over time this will also drive your site to the top of the search engines for your specific keywords provided you used them as anchor text in the links that point back to your site.

You could also combine this method with other free methods to get the most out of your site promotion. One such method could be videos that you create with your camera or even screen recordings on things you want your target market to know about your specific website. Together these 2 methods could give your site more of a boost in traffic than most other methods around.

5 Tips For Every New Website

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

If you’ve decided that you need a website or want to start selling online, then you’ll want to make sure that you have the full facts before it goes live. Why are some companies successful online, and why do some websites fail? Here’s what you need to know.

1. Establishing the purpose of your website is important. Will you be selling online? Capturing email addresses, encouraging people to contact you? Offering information and downloads? How might this change in the future, and what will you do about it? Will you encourage visitors to submit their reviews, or upload their videos, or contribute to the forum?

2. If you’re an ecommerce site, then you’ll want to make sure that your visitors can easily purchase your products. If you’re not selling online, but providing information, or encouraging your visitors to download your brochure, then you’ll want to make sure that you utilise data capture methods to ensure that you can contact these leads, and encourage them to become customers.

3. Your website will need the input of the whole company, not just marketing or IT. Your sales team might be involved in writing the content, the buying team might be providing product specifications, the financial department might set up the credit facilities for your customers, and customer services might be involved in processing orders and answering any inquiries. How will the whole company need to work together to make the most of seasonal promotions, or marketing for certain events during the year? Which are the busiest times of the year, and why?

4. If your company is not performing as you’d hoped, then a website is not a magic bullet to solve these problems. You’ll need to research your market and keywords, and decide on a strategy to ensure that your website is given the attention it deserves. You can’t launch a website and hope that it will look after itself. You’ll need to keep an eye on your competitors’ online and offline activities so that you’re not caught out. What are they doing that you can do better?

5. It’s also important to make sure that you are offering what your target audience expect and need. As well as the products and services they expect, you’ll need to use the same sort of language, and site design that they expect. A website selling business products to other companies will have different requirements to a social media site aimed at teenagers, or a website offering parenting or gardening advice.

Now you know about what you need to know about running your new website, have you got the right strategy to make it successful?

If you’re thinking about launching a new website, or you’ve just launched your website, then you might know exactly what’s involved. Alternatively, you might have been told that you need a website, and not know what to expect.

Here’s what you need to know.

1. Like running a shop, or other business, or running a car, your website is an ongoing process. You’ll need to make sure that it is running efficiently, and that it works properly. Checking for broken links, spelling mistakes and thinking about how else you can use your website, will be part of your daily routine.

2. Your website needs to be updated regularly. You might want to add new features, or change the layout, or add new products, or add your brochures or whatever else will be useful for your customers. Perhaps you’ll want to add audio or video, or reviews and testimonials to your ecommerce site.

3. It’s important to remember that your website needs new content adding to it regularly. Depending on the sort of site, you might want to add content on a daily basis. This will benefit your visitors and encourage the search engines to return to your site more often. How will a glossary, FAQ section, How To guides or a Troubleshooting page help your visitors. Don’t forget that you can include links to relevant sections and products in these pages, to increase the likelihood of your visitors becoming customers.

4. Your website will need to be optimised for your keywords, so you’ll want to make sure that they are mentioned appropriately. Remember to ensure that you use page titles, H1 tags and the meta description to tell visitors and search engines what each page is about. You’ll want to consider a comprehensive Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO campaign in order to ensure that your site ranks well for your keywords.

5. The navigation and the rest of the site need to be easy to use. Keep the colours and fonts the same, and ensure that links are obvious. Include plenty of calls to action and encourage visitors to take the action you want them to take, whether it’s buy, download a podcast, or sign up for your newsletter. Now you know what you need to know, do you need to think more about your website strategy, SEO and online marketing?
