The Changing Scenario in Web Design and Development

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

If you have been connected in any way with the field of web designing and web development, you will have noticed that quite a number of changes have occurred in the way that products and services are delivered. Indeed, it would be safe to say that the web has sparked a revolution in how we communicate and do business. It has opened frontiers so that even the most remote user has unlimited and continuous access to what is happening online. It all depends on the speed and reliability of his Internet connection.

Web designing and web development have emerged as two distinct disciplines requiring different skills in their own right, and it is not necessary that they are embodied in the same person. In fact this is an exception, rather than the rule. It often happens today that the web development and web designing aspects of the same website are accomplished in different corners of the world, with online communication and planning being shared across these locations. This makes it possible to take advantage of the best talents at affordable rates, so that it contributes to low costs and higher profits.

The sphere of online presentation methods and services has also widened considerably. Now we have dynamic pages compared to the static pages of the past. We use Flash, banners, buttons and other methods like animation to enliven and entertain the viewer. Getting someone to access your web pages and stay on them long enough to use your products or services is getting a lot more technical and ever more challenging. The game has moved from getting traffic to achieving conversions.

Those working in web designing or web development will be more familiar with the changing trends. These fields continue to evolve with the times, trying to incorporate all the available trends that are helpful to their working environment. Some of these elements have expanded and advanced the available technology, while others have made the best use of it. It is better to choose those elements that are here to stay and can contribute to the success and development of your business.

1. One example is the shift from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox as the default Internet browser for your system. This is because Mozilla Firefox has the ability to remember the last URL that you were on, saving time if rebooted because of system failure or overload. Another reason is that Mozilla Firefox has the ability to open each website in a separate window. In this way you can go back to the previous page or website simply by closing unwanted tabs. These two advantages over Internet Explorer make Mozilla Firefox a preferred choice as internet browser.

2. The emergence of framework libraries will enable web developers and programmers to write their code in a more attractive and elegant manner, enforcing a level of standards that all can use.

3. The possibility of data sharing across websites or networks so that if you log into the main frame of the website you automatically gain access to all the other portals within it or connected to it. Google’s website is a shining example of this, so that you can log into your Google account, and be automatically logged into your Google Adwords account, your blog and any social media widgets that you might have installed on your homepage.

4. As with most web development trends it is always advisable to adhere to Google’s standards. If you want your websites to be recognized on the world’s most powerful and well known search engine, then it is a good idea to follow their recommendations. By making correct use of meta tags, alt tags, keywords and all the other little elements that contribute to SEO in Dubai, you will no doubt get some high marks with Google in their search engine rankings.

Start a Jewelry Business – Creating an Inexpensive Jewelry Website

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

The new Wordpress.org software system is giving anyone who wants to have a presence on the web a chance to do so. This benefits jewelry makers greatly by giving them the freedom to create a place to do business cheaply and easily. Selling on Etsy and eBay is good, but creating your own portal is even better. Your website can also include educational information on gemstones, healing properties of minerals and cleaning tips among things.

WordPress software can upload to your hosting service in minutes with one click. It doesn’t get any easier than this. You first need a hosting service such as HostGator.com to store the website on. This will cost you a whopping $9.99 a month. Then you buy a domain name, again only $9.00 a year or so. Then the rest is simple:

* Get your domain to point to your hosting. (HostGator will walk you through this)
* Upload your WordPress software with one-click “fantastico”
* Pick a theme (a theme is what your website will look like)
* Start adding pages to your WordPress site.
* Start adding products to your pages.
* Paste the shopping cart buttons under the products (PayPal, 1shoppingcart, aweber, etc..)
* Start advertising! (Facebook, blogs, articles, Twitter, etc…)

Trust me…it’s not as complicated as it sounds. You can even find someone to do all this for you for a small fee. The point is that you can have a website up and running in a few hours, not months like in the old days. I would have started much sooner if it had been this easy. My online sales are often more than even my best art shows because I have a chance to reach a far larger audience. For jewelry makers that are ready to market their creations as far as they can go, the proper guidance and training will open up the opportunities you need to succeed.

Why Plan Before You Build a Website?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

It is reputed that Genghis Khan, when asked by one of his generals about the over whelming odds his army was facing in one of his battles; Genghis said ” do not worry just kill the one in front of you and we will win.”

It is very much like that when you set out to build a website; it can be over whelming and you might fear to start because the task will seem impossible and that you are just setting yourself up to fail.

Well that is not so if you follow the advise of Genghis Khan, which is one step at a time and you will win and build yourself a site.

You must of course have a plan. I find that before I start things it is always helpful to know where you want to be when you are done. In other words, like a road map with a destination at the end of it.
An end vision, which you keep in your mind as you go through the steps.

There are many steps to take in your “plan” But the very first step and the one that most people miss (and therefore why most people fail on line) is to find out what your visitors want. This is very important and cannot in any way be side stepped.

It is not what you want; but what your customers want.

Your site must be easy to understand and use, it must be the right colour for what you are doing and things must be in the right place. All this speaks of research (I have just Googled ” how to build a website” and there are 351,000,000 sites out there to help) And yes people do do research for the best colours to sell different product as well as the right text to use….you just have to get out there and do the research that is the right first step and in taking that step you will find the next.

This sounds easy enough, right?
