3 Must Do’s Before Selling Your First Product!

So many internet business owners make the same mistake. They get heavily involved in what THEY think their customers’ needs are they forget about what their customer WANTS. They try to sell the customer a product that he/she doesn’t have any desire for and guess what? Yup…no sale.

There is a simple rule that all internet businesses need to follow:

Before you sell (or create) your first product through your internet business, it is vitally important that you do 3 things first. If you do these things, you can be sure that you are offering your customers what they have been waiting for! And guess what?? Yup…lots of sales!

First, don’t presume that you know your customers’ needs or wants. You may be the expert in your niche; however, your list can teach you a ton! Find out what they want, and then sell it to them. Run a survey and ask your list or post it on your blog for all potential leads to participate.

Ask questions like:
What are your biggest challenges?
What types of services do you want offered?
What type of products do you want available?
What are your top 3 questions?
What is your single biggest problem?
Do you like information delivered in audio or written format?

You can run this survey by using an Ask Campaign. It’s simple and can really give your internet business a boost. Just Google “Ask Campaign” to get a $1 trial.

Second, once you run the survey and you receive responses from your list, you will need to analyze the results and take action. To start, look for common themes in the survey results. Is there a majority of people who have the same problem? What is your lists overall biggest problem?

Organize the information in a way that you can determine what your list WANTS! Remember, you are not concerned about what they need right now (you can always give them what they truly NEED as a bonus to the product they buy).

Finally, after reviewing the results, you need to find a product to sell that is going to cater to your lists’ wants. You have two options. You can create your own product that is specifically designed for your list and have to do all the support, billing and fulfillment of the sale of this product. Or, you can sell an affiliate product and not have to do any of the support, billing or fulfillment. The answer is simple, especially if you have a new internet business.

Choose an affiliate product that your list will buy and let the owner of the product worry about the rest! Many successful internet businesses start out and continue to exclusively offer affiliate products. To choose an affiliate product to sell to your list, go to ClickBank (locate with a Google search). ClickBank is a 3rd party online marketplace that lists digital products that are available to be sold by affiliates who have an internet business.

If your internet business sells through ClickBank you know that you will receive commissions for products sold because ClickBank collects all payments from customers and then pays out the affiliate commissions. You never have to worry about the owner of the product not paying out your commissions. Best of all, ClickBank is free for the affiliate.

To get started, go to ClickBank’s website and click the “Marketplace” tab. Filter your search using their system to find products related to your niche. Then, review each product and the product’s website (make sure it looks professional) while thinking about the feedback your list gave you. Choose a product to sell that meets your list’s wants.

Selling products to your customers that they want is absolutely necessary for the success of an internet business. By taking the time to find out what they want, you can assure that you will be offering something that they will likely buy. Remember, you can always give them what they really “need” for free.
