There is a plethora of reasons why the majority of internet marketers fail to build a successful online business and become an internet marketing casualty. However, I am going to concentrate on one specific reason here. For now, we will make a few assumptions with regards to making the first steps in starting your own business. I shall then explain what you need to do to avoid falling foul of the biggest obstacle to success.
We will assume that you have an internet marketing business system in place, you have your resources and support and you are working with an internet marketing coach or mentor. The majority of people starting their own online marketing business have little or no experience of either marketing, the internet or running their own business. This is why I absolutely advise against starting in this business without a mentor to guide you through your learning experience and putting you firmly on a clear path to success.
So, how is it that the vast majority of newcomers to the industry become an internet marketing casualty, given that they have a business system, resources and a mentor in place?
Well, it is nothing to do with any of those factors. The biggest obstacle to success is the newbie internet marketer. It is their own fault – Yes, that’s right. If the support is there for them but they still fail, it is on their shoulders.
This may seem a little harsh and somewhat of a blanket statement. I appreciate how that conclusion could be drawn. However, I will explain.
To be successful in this industry and to avoid being an internet marketing casualty, you need to have these two key skills:
1. the ability to follow instructions and
2. the ability to apply what you have learnt from those instructions and take action.
Without these skills you will fail at achieving your goals. It cannot be said any simpler than that.
So, to clarify, when your marketing mentor explains that you need to go and complete five specific tasks to setup your online presence, build your credibility and market yourself by using certain techniques, then what you need to do is listen, ask for any clarification if needed and then apply what you have been told to do.
It is human nature to resist change and if you are new to internet marketing that is exactly what you are going through – change. Never allow yourself to listen to that little voice on your shoulder that says: “This is too hard. I can’t do that. I’m not cut out for this.”
