Many Internet marketers have revolted against the perceived practice of some of the industry “gurus” of leading people on with a myriad of products that don’t actually get the newbie where they need to go to make money online. The new marketer tends to get overwhelmed with all the stuff and spend all their time and resources learning and none of their time actually putting any of the training into practice. New marketers who do attempt to follow through on the many e-books and training seminars that they purchase don’t necessarily follow them in an order that leads to success.

Things to consider in evaluating a training program in the Internet Marketing niche:
1. Is the training comprehensive, or does it cover just one aspect of Internet Marketing?
Of course someone who has evaluated their needs and specifically only requires training on pay-per-click advertising or list building should look for training that specializes in that aspect. Raw recruits, however, are best served by comprehensive programs that give the user some options on how they’d like to proceed. There should be segments in the training that describe how to do affiliate marketing of information products, how to find other types of products to sell from online storefronts, how to use other large marketplaces such as ebay or Amazon to sell products, how to create one’s own products, and how to market private label rights products.
Newbie training should also go over the basic components of a mini-site, including a sales page, thank you page, and various styles and components of an optin page. The basics of list building is also an essential ingredient in a training program for new marketers. Lastly, use of social marketing tools is also critical to a guide for new online marketers.
2. What are the author’s qualifications and training style? Do they match your needs?
Read the author’s blog. Take a look at the author’s video presentations. Does the author have the background to be teaching this material? Is the author a good presenter? Do they write well? Is the material they present well organized? Have they given you as part of the sales presentation a chance to download a chapter or listen to some free training videos? If you have had a chance to preview the training material, you’re much more likely to become a satisfied buyer.
3. How much hand-holding is available? Is it sufficient for your needs?
Trainers will often offer as an upsell a private teleconference series, a special forum, extra email access to the coach or his/her team, or an on-site and hands-on session. Do you have the funds to add the upsell if you need more individualized support?
4. What media are used to deliver the training?
Make sure that the training approach fits the material and your own learning style needs. The best systems employ a variety of learning techniques, including written and video material, both downloadable; some interactive webinars so that questions can be asked and answered and responses can be illustrated visually as well as verbally; hands-on exercises or projects; member forums.
5. What is the cost-benefit?
Evaluate the comprehensiveness, professional quality, and organization against the cost of the program. Are you paying for hype and name branding or substance?
