Internet Marketers Fail Because Of The Agenda Stealers
How many times has YOUR agenda been hijacked this month?
In my view, the biggest single cause of internet marketers failing is because their agenda keeps getting hijacked.
Unless you are one of the rare exceptions, that will be something you’ve experienced all-too often.
There are two causes:
The first cause of internet marketing failure from agenda hijacking is the obvious one – it’s the internet marketing promoters.
These folk are the smartest and slickest promoters around, and when they aim their guns at the internet marketing niche itself, we end up with a deadly combination.
That combination consists of
- The marketers – who know exactly how to appeal to emotions, insecurities, curiosity, desire to learn, the need for fast results etc.
- The online business builder – who is open-minded, curious, eager to learn, in need of fast results and often insecure.
The match is so good, it’s like pushing at an open door: a deadly combination indeed!
So how exactly do you lose your agenda?
The messages from the IM promoters go something like this:
“The FASTEST, EASIEST, NEWEST, PROVEN, SECRET, GUARANTEED, STEP-BY-STEP, IDIOT-PROOF……way to make money online is by doing XYZ”
“I can show you EXACTLY how to do XYZ better than anyone else, ever”
“So buy my XYZ System NOW…… while there are still places… before the price goes up”
And there is a fourth, unstated message, which is…
“And abandon whatever else you were doing or thinking of doing and spend your time on XYZ”
What just happened?
Your agenda just got stolen. Whatever other plans you had, you ditched them and switched track.
And yet, we can’t put all the blame on the IM promoters, because the other cause of having your agenda hijacked is…
YOU!
Most people who look to set up online businesses are imaginative, creative people. The sort of people who can dream up three new business ideas before breakfast, and then be mulling over five other ones by the time they go to bed.
Such people would much rather START a project than FINISH one: it’s much more fun and interesting.
All-in-all, this is a huge problem for nearly every internet marketer. I know this not only from my own experience in the past, but also from studying the profiles of my mentees.
Unfortunately, there are no simple, easy or instant answers to this problem. The solution consists of these three rather obvious points.
- Create your OWN agenda
- Create an agenda for ALL TIME FRAMES
- Be very strict with yourself about STICKING TO YOUR AGENDA
It has to be more than simply: “I want to make money online”. You need something concrete, some definite plan.
This is often the HARDEST step for most people, because their most common questions is “where do I begin?”.
Ideally, you need a ready-made agenda to get you on your way – but one that doesn’t commit you to a specific internet marketing business model. After all, you probably don’t know what model you want to follow yet, do you?
You need to know what your agenda is:
- For the next HOUR
- For TODAY
- For THIS WEEK
- For THIS MONTH
- For THIS YEAR
- For the next 2-3 YEARS
Of course, the further out you go, the less detailed your agenda is going to be, and the more prepared you need to be to make changes (particularly in the internet marketing world where things change VERY quickly).
The shorter the timeframe, the more strict you must be.
For example, only the most critically urgent of distractions should change your agenda for the next HOUR. And you would need to have a VERY good reason before changing your agenda for TODAY.
So if you really are strict with yourself, you are much less likely to get distracted into watching that sales video for a product which doesn’t fit into your plan/agenda.
And going back to the first point – if your plan/agenda is simply “I want to make money online”, then ANY video, any sales letter, any promotional email, any free e-book…. will fit into that plan. Which means your time on-line will be spent endlessly being pulled here and there by the latest IM promoter to grab your attention.
Agenda hijacking, time and time and time again.
So that’s it.
This formula won’t guarantee you on-line success, but without it, you’re almost guaranteed NOT to succeed.
Here it is in a nutshell:
Create your OWN AGENDA for ALL TIME FRAMES and STICK TO IT.
