Internet Marketing Myths You Must Take Advantage Of
The internet is an interesting place. It is a vast universe populated by people of all shades and trades. In this mix is the tribe of internet marketers. Among this band are the internet marketing ‘experts’ who took it upon themselves to ‘guide’ would-be internet marketers. Many of these ‘experts’ give success tips that are, like Shakespeare would put it, full of sound and fury but lacking any real value. Some of the ideas are not only downright ludicrous they are contradictory and will most likely kill your business at birth if heeded; they are simply myths.
However, if you’re smart, you can still use these myths to your advantage as you grow your business. How? Let’s take a look at some of these myths.
Appearance versus content
Some experts are insistent that your website design should take second stage to content as it has no direct bearing on the business’s success. Some others argue just the opposite, that in fact first impression, starting from a great looking site, is all the break a business needs. While it is hard to know where to pitch your tent, it is clear from the above that a good place to start is a functional website and above average content.
High versus low pricing
To gain a good profit and make your margins look impressive, some believe you have to place a high price tag on your product/service, that that’s the way to go. Others disagree, claiming low priced products/services make for more sales and higher profit. What’s this tell you? Your pricing must be reasonable for the product being offered. You may be surprised to know that buyers have an instinctive feel for a product/service’s worth and so you are shortchanging yourself, either way, if you don’t have your product properly priced.
For and against social media
Internet marketing and social media don’t mix well, some experts argue. To this set of experts the use of Facebook or Twitter, for instance, by internet marketers is simply a passing phase, a fad. Other experts disagree, pointing to the link building opportunities Facebook and others represent, not to mention brand awareness. What this does for the smart business owner is to prompt you to carry out your own research on the possibilities of social media as a marketing tool. Doing the research gives you the edge as you know what works and what doesn’t. This can only be good for business.
Greenhorn versus experience
Greenhorns in internet marketing, experts say, are most likely to fail because it is a tough and expensive business. Some other experts say that is not true and they freely encourage novices to jump in, with promises of overnight success. This tells you opportunities abound for everyone in internet marketing: young or old; experience or inexperience if you are smart enough to see it and smarter still to work at it and be patient for success. Nothing great comes over night.
And the list goes on: getting indexed is the ultimate; all you need is a list; high sales will follow high search engine ranking; fresh content and backlinks give success; you are never short of contradictory success tips for would-be internet marketers. While taking such tips with a pinch of salt, they should help spur you onto action to uncover the truth and stick to what actually works for you.
