Should You Be Loyal to a Single Bow Manufacturer?
Some people become very passionate about their compound bows and their loyalty often makes its presence felt in online archery forums. The question of whether one bow manufacturer is better than another can often lead to heated arguments and in many cases the breadth of experience is based solely on shooting a single bow from that maker. The danger that these online arguments pose is that some newcomers can be influenced enough to dismiss a manufacturer based on what they read.
The truth is that all manufacturers create bows that suit a range of people. This may be a range of experienced to beginner archers or it may be to suit tall to short archers. Not every bow released by a bow-maker will suit you, so it is very important to make your buying decision based on your own experience and feeling. Preferably your decision will come after you have test fired the bow.
Brand loyalty is all well and good, but by sticking blindly to a single manufacturer you run the risk of missing out on what could be even more suitable bows. Even worse is to publicly run down a manufacturer because their product wasn’t right for you, failing to acknowledge that it could be perfect for the next man.
Remember, there are a lot of fine bow manufacturers and none of them are duds. They each cater for specific types of shooters, large-framed, small-framed, beginner, novice or experienced. Don’t get caught up in the thinking that one kind of maker is better than another.
When you hit the stores to buy a compound bow, make sure you try bows from a range of makers, testing one from, say, PSE Archery against one or more from Hoyt Archery for example.
