To Dream a Dream of Playing Professionally
Sports are America’s pastime. Whether you have a sports team in your area, or you are transplanted into an area that has a franchise, many Americans eat, breathe, talk, and dream about sports. For many the American dream consists of growing up and playing a professional sport like football or baseball. Kids start playing at a young age and practice and are groomed till their adolescent years where there are hopes that they will be spotted by a college recruiter. Scholarships and pro leagues are then only a few years away.
One way that Americans cultivate their sports playing prowess is to have their kids attend sports camp. Many areas have summer camps that are sponsored by local sports groups. If there is a university in the area, often they will host sports camps throughout the summer. Many times, college athletes assist and help inspire the youth at the camps to play better and to practice more. They personify the dream that many of the kids hope to achieve for themselves.
If a high school player is able to break into college sports, there are still a few years to prove their talents and abilities. There are a few that make it out of high school and are recruited to play professionally, but not all sports allow a high school player to be recruited. Often they need to play in college for a couple of years. So, if high school players are recruited by a number of colleges, they have a couple of years to show their value. After a couple of years of play, and if they are stand out players, some college players elect to enter into a draft for a professional team to choose them. The hope is that they will be one of the select few that receive an offer to play and fulfill the dream of many Americans.
To play sports professionally is a dream that many people harbor and if they do not make it big, then the dream is often embodied in their children. For those that make it, the dream is fulfilled, but for those that do not, a love of sports is cultivated and the enjoyment of play offs and championship games for their favorite teams remains a lifetime pastime.
