Malaga is a place that many people only visit the airport of on their way to their final holiday destination. The Costa Del Sol, perhaps Europe’s most infamous holiday resort stretches westwards from Malaga to Gibraltar along the coast. Malaga, despite its sprawl, actually has some charming narrow streets to browse. The birthplace of one of the worlds best know artists is an attraction and there is the new Museo Picasso which houses almost two hundred original pieces of the great mans work. There is also an impressive cathedral and plenty of shopping to while away the hours.
Malaga has one of the most favorable climates in Europe with mild winters and warm summers. With very low rainfall, it’s easy to see why so many people come here each year to escape the harsher Northern European winters.
There are an increasing number of hotels available in Malaga. Be sure to check the rooms first in the cheap areas near to the port, which cater, as many port towns do, for the more nomadic population and leave some standards to be met. You will find lots of modern hotels as well as Malaga becomes more and more important as a transport hub with a high speed rail link to Madrid and the growing size of the airport.
Malaga is certainly a place worth looking round and not simply overlooking as you travel through to the overly developed tourist areas in the south.
