When we talk of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia as a holiday destination it is usually with the idea of how much fun it will be for the adults. However, Kuala Lumpur establishes itself as being a great holiday destination by catering to the kids as well as the adults. No holiday would be complete without a visit to a theme park and Malaysia has its very own theme park at the Cosmo’s World Theme Park, which is the largest indoor theme park in Malaysia. Situated in Berjaya Time Square, it offers 14 rides with two individually themed areas. There are rides specifically targeting adults and teenagers such as Space Attack, Spinning Orbit, Dizzy Izzy, while there is a area catering more towards kids and family rides, such as Honey Bump, Robo Crash, Flying Bumble Bee and Fantasy Trail to mention a few. The Theme Park has introduced a new attraction called with haunted Chambers, while guests can also enjoy good old fashioned carnival games.
Take a day off from shopping and visit the National Zoo called the Zoo Negara Malaysia and is managed by the Malaysian Zoological Society. With over 5000 animals this zoo is the fist local zoo. As it is only about 5km from Kuala Lumpur, reaching this destination is not difficult and is worth the effort as the kids enjoy the spacious 110 acres of zoo filled with roomy exhibits. This is to ensure that the animals enjoy as natural a habitat as possible. It is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, while the zoo offers huts, some even air conditioned, for visitors to rest and relax. There are restaurants and cafe dotted around the zoo premises.
Petrosains is a Science Discovery Centre that uses an innovative and fun way to explain the science and technology of petroleum. It is housed in the Petronas Twin Towers on the 5th level of both Tower 1 and 2. The entrance is through the 4th level of the Suria mall. This centre makes learning fun, using a hands-on-approach so that science becomes enjoyable and opens up a window to the history and development of petroleum and related products. With guides, presenters and demonstrators kids will enjoy themselves learning much from the exhibits and even going on a simulated helicopter ride to an oil rig. So take your kids for a visit to the Petrosains Science Discovery Centre and let them experience a science lesson they will enjoy. It is open everyday, including holidays, except Mondays.
Also of interest to children would be the KL Bird Park and the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park. Kids can watch birds in their natural element as the park adheres to a free flight concept. It has about 800 birds both local and foreign species in a half natural and half man made location. While the Butterfly Park is near Lake Gardens and simulates a natural environment for the butterflies, such as a tropical rain forest, so kids can be vowed by the location as much as by the over 6,000 odd butterflies from over 120 species.
A must for any child is a visit to an aquarium. The wonder of these undersea water creatures and the natural calming effect is a must for the whole family. The Aquaria KLCC is right in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. This is not a simple aquarium but a journey within itself.
