5 Mistakes to Avoid If You Are Not a Professional Web Designer
When designing a website, you may feel confident in your abilities to piece together templates, coding or to expertly choose and use a good web designer tool. But if you are not a professional website builder, there are pitfalls you can fall into that make your design process more difficult.. The best way to learn how to become a top designer is by broadening your knowledge of the tools of the trade in website design. So as you begin with your own site. here are five mistakes to avoid.
Mistake #1 – Buying only “Brand Name” software
Don’t be fooled by brand name site building software. Just because a piece of software has been developed by a well known company does not mean that it actually has the tools that you need to develop a professional website quickly and easily. And if you someday hope to become a professional web designer, your resume will not be enhanced in the least by listing the bands of software that you have mastered if those software packages have not effectively enhanced your creation of high quality websites.
Mistake #2 – Too hard to learn and use
Avoid software that has too high of a learning curve. A web designer tool should not require you to study for hours or days or weeks before you can figure out how to piece together a basic website. If you are interested in a career building websites, you will need to learn how to choose software that you can master quickly and easily so that you do not lengthen project times or lower your earning potential.
Mistake #3 – No marketing capability
You should also look for software that has built in marketing capabilities. With millions of websites on the internet, your competition is fierce. But creating a website should not be like reinventing the wheel. Website designer applications should make the process easier, and so by looking for solutions that include SEO (search engine optimization) tools or other marketing devices, you will be adding another feather in your cap as a website owner as well as to your own resume.
Mistake #4 – No support or training
Good web designer software includes support and training. If the software you are attempting to use offers neither support nor training, walk away. You would not expect a job description to include the expectation of needing to intuitively know how to use all types of web designer software – and so you should not expect this of yourself as a website owner. Software price comparisons often favor baseline software packages that come with no support, but you may find that is well worth the cost to use more robust tools instead that provide help as needed.
Mistake #5 – Buggy, untested software
Another issue with baseline software or freeware web designer tools is that they are often buggy. Beware of alpha or beta runs of software. The software you use may not have gone through enough versions to work all of the kinks out. You can rely on customer reviews to learn of most of these issues.
These five are not the only areas in which web designer mistakes are made, but they probably account for 80 to 90% of the most costly ones. Feel free to contact me for more information, or if you need any additional help with any issue related to this topic.
