A web designer in both your local and national area can be worth a shot, so you must take into account the needs of your website before choosing who to go with.
If you can use a local designer because there will be less travelling time involved when meeting up (reducing costs) and that designer is also close to hand if anything goes wrong. You will also be supporting local business in your area which can only help to grow your community and stop small businesses from having to close down.
