Web Design Companies – Advice on How to Choose Between Local and Distant Designers
Where do you start when appointing a web designer? If you type the name of the service you require along with your geographic location in to Google you see a long list of links to local companies close to you in the results. However the results occasionally show links to sites offering the services you are interested in – but miles and miles away.
The reason for this is lots of companies know local search is big. It is not uncommon for web sites to be optimised for lots of place names that are hundreds, and in some cases, thousands of miles away. Some companies will even devote a large marketing budget on an AdWords campaign to show up in multiple local searches, that are often a great distance away.
Local Versus Distant Web Design
Many perfectly sound and very good web design companies that can conduct their business completely remotely. Most of what they need to deliver a website that does exactly what you want it to do can be discussed over the phone and the information they need from you can be sent by email or in the post. Often design and development fees are kept down by eliminating the costs of travelling and meeting time.
One thing to consider is would face to face meetings be needed? Will it be more effective to communicate to your designer and your designer back to you if you could actually meet? This may be necessary, especially if your website has a complicated feature or some special functions. The cheapest of websites will still cost a couple of hundred pounds whether it is produced close to you or far away. It goes without saying that you want to be sure you are dealing with a company that is going to give you exactly what you have asked for and are not going to disappear with your cash never to be heard from again.
There is no guarantee that a local company will be more trustworthy than a distant one, with customer testimonials and portfolios reasonably easy to fake. With a local company you are able to ask around. You have heard of the saying, ‘This is a small town’, so get chatting to other business owners. You might get a great recommendation to a company that is not showing in the ‘noise’ of Google local search results.
