Web Design the Search Engine Friendly Way – Flashy Isn’t Always Good!
If you’re designing a website, or are having a website designed, you’re probably mainly concerned with the way the website will look.
Of course, websites need to look good, that’s a given – but what many entrepreneurs, and web designers quite often forget to consider, is how their design choices effect the search engine friendliness of the website.
If you’re wanting to achieve a professional image with your website – you may well be considering the use of flash, for part of the design, including for some of the text content.
While the use of flash to a certain degree can add to the visitors experience, and can help to make a website look impressive – what you need to keep in mind, is that search engine spiders can not read flash!
So – any text that is delivered by flash, is useless from a search engine point of view.
What’s more, flash content is often used to deliver important textual content at the top of a web page – where header text would usually be used. Header text is very important, it’s considered by most to be the most important place on the page for keywords, after the title tag & description, so using flash to deliver text can rob you of some of your most important opportunities to tell the search engines that your website is a relevant result to display high up in the rankings for a given keyword.
So, if you’re considering using flash – make sure you keep this in mind, and make a decision on what is most important, the use of flash to get the site to look & exactly how you want to – or the ease at which you are able to get your website high rankings for your important keywords.
